Summer 2010
Dear Friends,
Summer is a little over half way through! And it has been a busy one!
In the vineyard, we had fruit set a few weeks ago. It has been a cool summer and all vineyards in Oregon are a couple of weeks behind normal at this point. So what have we done to help the vineyard along? We removed all of of the ground cover between the rows. This allows for all energy to be directed at the grape vine. We also have already pulled leaves to expose the fruit so it can soak in as much sun as possible in the next few months. This combined with our even, yet lower yielding fruit set will provide us with great fruit this harvest. Our clusters are nice sized with plenty of space for berry growth and evenly sized berries. Next up will be color change in about 2-3 weeks!
From a winery standpoint, we have been knee deep in events. We started as a featured winery at the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival. From there to Oregon and straight to Oregon Pinot Camp where 270 wine buyers from around the country descend on Oregon for a 3 day intensive on pinot--from farming to soil, winemaking to blending. Chris and I spend 3 days in Seattle at the Riesling Rendezvous--70 producers from 9 countries come talk about and taste Riesling! We’ve shared some of our photos from the event on our new Facebook Fan Page. Please note that this is a different page than our Brooks Group Page; it’s time we migrated over to the majority system on Facebook. We appreciate the new “likes” and please tell your friends – online and otherwise.
At the end of July we were a featured winery at the International Pinot Noir Celebration in McMinnville. We spent 3 days with pinot lovers from around the globe. On the last day, Pascal introduced Brooks Wines in front of a huge crowd! He did a great job!
The tasting room has been really busy and we appreciate all of you who have come by. Don't forget, you can always call ahead. We'll be glad to see you anytime!
Please take a few minutes to look through our updated website. We have recently changed platforms. While it looks the same in many cases, you will note that het shopping cart is more user friendly and you can now rate the wines! Please do so!
As we move on to the last month of summer and into the fall, we will continue to have many events. Information can be found on our Events page.
From all of us here we wish you warm summer days.
Janie Brooks Heuck
