ALLEN MEADOWS OF BURGHOUND  ISSUE 42  May/June 2011

2008 Pinot Noir – Janus: (Willamette Valley, 13.4%). A perfumed and solidly complex nose offers up notes of subtle spice, earth, briar and a mélange of dark berry fruit aromas. The fleshy but well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess a sophisticated mouth feel as the supporting tannins are quite fine on the attractively intense and mildly austere finish. This is lovely though it will need a few years to round off the youthful asperity. 90/2015+

2008 Pinot Noir – Rastaban: (Eola-Amity Hills, 13.4%). This is a bit less aromatically interesting than the Janus as it’s more somber and less perfumed, at least at present. The rich, round and suave flavors possess good balance and verve on the delicious, solidly complex and lingering finish. This also has a touch of austerity to the finish but less than that of the Janus and about the only nit here is a very mild touch of finishing warmth. A qualitative choice. 90/2015+

STEPHEN TANZER'S INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR July/August 2010

2008 Brooks Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 90 points

"Limpid red.  Sexy aromas of raspberry, fresh rose, anise, and Asian spices, along with a high-pitched minty nuance.  Tight-grained and firmly built but in no way hard-edged, displaying lively red fruit and candied floral character and good tangy cut.  Finishes with excellent spicy persistence and silky tannins, with the bright floral note repeating."

2007 Pinot Noir "Janus"  Willamette Valley 91 Points

"Bright red.  Fresh red berries, cherry and mocha on the nose. A suave floral quality comes up with air and carries on to the palate, adding complexity to the sweet raspberry and cherry flavors.  Nervy acidity adds lift and cut to the long, spicy, focused finish."

Brooks Named "CHAMPION OF VALUE" for 2006 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, September 2009

"...as for the price? "We're just trying to preserve Jimi's philosophy to have wines available on a daily basis," says Janie Brooks Heuck, Jimi's sister.  "There's nothing better these days than being known as a value winery.""

94 points! "TOP 100 - BEST BUYS"

The 2006 Brooks Willamette Valley leads with the “YEAR’S BEST PINOT NOIR” -- from Oregon receiving 94 POINTS!! “Lean, focused and beautifully composed, this gentle wine has a dark red cherry scent accented by pepper and carob spice. The texture is silky, the finish is marked by fine acids and a faint spine of minerals. What has above all is poise. It’s an elegant package for breast of duck”.

90 points!  "Ara" Riesling 2007 Willamette Valley

"Light yellow with a green tint. Highly perfumed bouquet of citrus fruits, melon, honeysuckle, minerals and Moroccan spices. This is pretty exotic and complex, offering juicy melon and orange flavors and good mineral spine. An ample but energetic wine that finishes with excellent clarity and stony cut. Try it with Japanese seafood dishes."

2007 Brooks Wines Amycas White Table Wine Oregon
"Peach, pear and melon aromas are brightened by notes of Meyer lemon and honeysuckle. Medium-bodied and juicy, with the orchard fruit flavors given a bitter edge and faint tartness by lemon pith and zest qualities. Finishes with good grip, cut and mineral firmness. 88 points."

2007 Brooks Wines Riesling Willamette Valley
"Precise aromas of lime zest, mint, minerals and white flowers. Denser and riper in the mouth, offering dry, refreshingly bitter quince and peach skin flavors and a subtle perfumed character. Finishes with a refreshingly dry edge and good mineral lift. This would work with raw oysters. 88 points."

“Bright yellow. Fresh orange, lime, quince and anise on the nose, with a dusty mineral undertone. Bitter lemon and pear skin flavors are complicated by licorice and honeysuckle, with firm grip and tangy mineral lift. Gains weight on the finish while maintaining vivacity and focus. Pretty impressive.”
