Dark in color and nearly opaque. Black cherry, blackberry, black plum and boysenberry on the nose. Forest floor, black mushroom, tar and roses, briar and beetroot with an almost volcanic mineral quality.
Very rich and robust, with a meaty mouthfeel like portabella mushrooms. The wine has girth and strength, with modest acidity, grit and dust. Fruit flavors of cooked strawberries, boysenberry, black cherry, black plum with skin and rhubarb. Some earthy character including hints of forest floor, truffle and dark fresh mushrooms.
Another versatile food pairing wine, with the fruitness and structure of Merlot, yet with the distinct pretty notes of Pinot Noir and very little tannins. This can work as a barbeque wine for carne asada, al pastor, grilled skirt steak, lengua or pork adobo. Would also be very enjoyable with barbequed chicken, pork shoulder or pasta Bolognese. Easy to drink. Too easy, perhaps.
