A hint of gun smoke, roasted vegetables and mineral on the nose. A faint petrol note and green grass on a summer picnic with orange pith and citrus on the high notes. This is a fat wine for sure, brooding and intense, staring at you with a questioning face, a hard handshake and then, big fruit, mineral and a huge finish of still ripening grapes. In the mouth, there is quince and red apple, melon, water chestnut, pea pod and cucumber. This is a wine in reflection, with intensity and presence and finishing with power and enormous structure. I would actually recommend laying this down for a year or two and then serving it with steak and mushrooms, squab and buttery potatoes or pheasant and grilled vegetables. Can’t wait to see where this one is going to go!
