2015 Oak Ridge Gewürztraminer

$18 / Bottle

Situated on the eastern slopes of the White Salmon Valley at 1400 feet, this southern facing, sustainably farmed vineyard was plated in 1984. We are very excited to be sourcing this fruit from Oak Ridge. Only 250 cases produced, Enjoy!

The grapes for this wine come from 28 year-old, sustainably farmed vines located at 1400 feet in the White Salmon Valley, two hours away from the winery on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge. The long, cool growing season is bookended by a long cool fermentation, accentuating the fruit character of Gewürztraminer while maintaining the complex volatile aromatics.

The mouthfeel is similar to Gewürztraminer from Alsace or the Alto Adige; it exudes power and confidence, but remains elegant and light on its feet, showing wonderful balance and a fresh lift on the finish.

There is no better wine anywhere to accompany Mexican, Indian, or Thai cuisines. Paella is also pretty perfect, or any other dish where exotic spices are major players in the experience.

Chris Blanchard, MS

Highly aromatic of course, with pungent citrus notes of fresh Valencia orange, grapefruit, key limes and meyer lemon. Medium weight and creamy, orange cake, rose petal potpourri and white flower. Savory fennel, sage and basil, nutmeg and clove spices and a powerful finish. Gewurtz has the tendency to be too sweet, too viscous, too aromatic, too overpowering. This is not. It has an elegance and a lightness, with pretty highlights of classic Gewurtztraminer characteristics, which makes for quite an enjoyable experience.

This would also work wonderfully as an aperitif with a variety of cheeses, fruit salad, or my mom’s ambrosia. Save a bottle for dessert with the aforementioned orange cake, panna cotta or fresh grapefruit granita for a refreshing end to the meal.
