2019 Ara Riesling

This wine is no longer available, but check out our other Rieslings.

A dry Riesling with perfectly-integrated acid and complexly layered notes of apple, citrus, herbs and baking spices.

Ara is the name of a constellation and is one of the very first riesling labels Jimi Brooks created after founding Brooks in 1998. Jimi’s passion and interests of mythology and astrology often were shown through the creation of his first wines.

Ara is usually made up of two vineyards, Brooks Estate and Yamhill Vineyard. It shows their old-vine complexity in two voices, one lean lime and green apple, the other a deeper voice, more given to stone fruits, nectarine and pale peach. Delivered with dry intensity, the tension between the vineyard expressions forms a complex matrix of flavor. It will reward patient cellaring.”

93 Points - Patrick J. Comiskey, Wine & Spirits
Green apples, ginger, saline, crushed rocks, pears, lemon peels, oyster shells, jasmine, acacia flowers, nectarine, white peaches, flint notes. Excellent depth, balance, and poise with racy, high acidity. What a great finish!!!!

Apple pie would be an amazing pairing with this wine. Cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and sugar, serve it warm with a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream!

A blend of volcanic and marine sedimentary sites in the Willamette Valley, this compelling Riesling effuses baked apple, citrus, cantaloupe and marzipan. Integrated acidity and notes of Meyer lemon round out this mouthwatering wine.

Winemaking Notes

A wet, but warm spring with a few mild frosts during late April and fewer than average heat spikes.
Near-record precipitation amounts during late June and early July brought increased disease pressure to the region.
The vintage will be remembered for the early rains in September and rapid cool down into October which challenged harvesting decisions.
The cool vintage came largely from substantially lower maximum temperatures while minimum temperatures were near average to slightly above average.
A classic Oregon vintage!
