2017 Rastaban Pinot Noir Magnum 1.5L

Sexy and deeply layered with a perfumed bouquet of red and black fruits with an undertone of brambly herbaceousness. Finishes with a spicy yet elegant length.

Comprised of 3 clones of pinot noir grapes from our very own Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills. These clones are Pommard, 115, and 777. The vines were planted between 1973 and 1979 in volcanic basalt-nekia soil. Brooks Estate Vineyard is farmed biodynamic.

Rastaban is the name of a star and that star is the eye of a constellation called Draco. This is one of the first and more reserve pinot noir labels Jimi Brooks produced. Jimi’s passion and interests of mythology and astrology often were shown through the creation of his first wines.

95 Points | Vinous - Glistening ruby-red. Highly expressive raspberry, cherry and boysenberry scents are complicated by hints of candied flowers, succulent herbs and vanilla. Palate-staining red and blue fruit, spicecake and floral pastille flavors show alluring sweetness, fine detail and strong, spicy back-end lift. Melds power and finesse with a sure hand and finishes extremely long and precise, with resonating florality and polished, well-judged tannins that come in slowly.

Beautifully layered with deep red and black fruit characteristics. Rounded tannins and a juicy finish leave you wanting more….

Pork tenderloin, delicata squash and a raspberry pinot sauce would make this the perfect pairing.

A mix of red and black fruits with lifted floral aromatics, crunchy acidity, and old vine restraint.

Winemaking Notes

A wet, cool spring delayed flowering until late June, which set the stage for a later harvest than the previous three vintages. Hot, dry conditions prevailed through the summer, yielding heat spikes in August. With a larger than normal fruit set, the grapes enjoyed long hang time leading up to harvest. Conditions cooled and brought in scattered rains with the harvest, which began at Brooks on the 28th of September and ran through November 1st, almost returning to normal average harvest dates in the Willamette Valley. The wines from the vintage show fresh fruit flavors and lively acidity. In all, it will be remembered as a classic vintage in Oregon!
