In 2009, filmmaker David Baker and a group of colleagues hatched an ambitious plan: They would make a wine pilgrimage across the United States and back, interviewing American winegrowers and compiling a documentary film.
Over the next four-plus years, the crew traveled extensively, interviewing somewhere between 70 and 100 subjects (they lost count after their first 100 hours of footage). They even filmed quarterback Drew Bledsoe, now a winery owner in Walla Walla.
But one interview so moved Baker that he realized he had to return home and rethink the entire framework of his film.
THE HITHERTO UNTOLD STORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF RIESLING
By Stuart Piggot | Author and Wine Expert
Janie and Chris’s achievements were amply proven at the Brooks wine dinner yesterday evening at the Auden Bistro in Manhattan’s Ritz Carlton Hotel, part of the ‘Phenomenal Femmes’ series...the twin high points for me were the two Rieslings.
The dry 2010 ‘Ara’ Riesling is a very striking and daring wine that will either excite you with its electric brilliance and understated power or sending you running for the cover of soft and safe Industrial Pinot Grigio. Even at this age it is still just beginning to unfurl its apple and white peach aromas like a long banner in the wind.
The 2012 ‘Sweet P’ Riesling is a beauty that doesn’t seem challenging, instead brimming with all manner of white fruit and floral aromas, but behind the transparent veil of grape sweetness is a core as firm and razor-sharp as a samurai sword. Together these dramatically contrasting great wines say everything about how in recent years Riesling has put down deep roots in Oregon and in America and quality has improved in leaps and bounds by winemakers taking learning from Riesling’s homeland in Germany, Austria and Alsace/France.
AMERICAN WINE STORY
A little less than two years ago, I was approached by a film company called Three Crows Media. They were filming a movie called “American Wine Story” about why people leave their day jobs to risk following their dreams by entering the wine industry and over the course of interviewing many winemakers and growers, they kept hearing about the story of Jimi Brooks. After meeting with them and hearing their plans, I said that we would be willing to participate...[continue reading]

2014....A PIVOTAL YEAR IN THE MAKING
2014 is off and running and may likely be the biggest year in our history! We will do all that we can to keep you updated! Please check back here on a regular basis and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see daily posts! A quick summary of the latest:
NEW WINERY CONSTRUCTION
On April 1, (no joke) we began construction on a new 12,000 square foot winery and tasting facility on the grounds of our Estate vineyard in the Eola Amity Hills. Chris will finally have production areas for both fermentation and barrels instead of having to play his current game of tetris! And for our customers, from the majestic setting where the winery will be located, on a clear the view will include four mountains on a sunny day behind the expanse of the Willamette Valley. The outdoor patios and comfortable tasting room will provide our customers with a warm, casual experience in pure Brooks style. Construction will be completed by harvest 2014!
AMERICAN WINE STORY
2014 takes us to the big screen! Three Crows Media has produced a documentary film about a groups of winemakers who were willing to take the life changing move to dive into the wine industry. The story of our founder, Jimi Brooks and the complete Brooks story is about half the content of the documentary. It is an amazing tribute to an amazing person! And it is taking off in the film festival world...currently headed to River Bend, Mendocino and Newport Beach! To watch the trailer, click here.
