2019 Old Vine Pommard Pinot Noir

A gorgeous Pinot Noir from the Old Vine Pommard clone in the Brooks Estate Vineyard with lifted notes of red cherry, dried Rose petals, and pomegranate reduction, beautiful structure, and a long and warm finish.

Comprised of pinot noir grapes of one clone type, Pommard, from our very own Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills. The vines were planted between 1973-1974 in volcanic basalt-nekia soil. Brooks Estate Vineyard is farmed biodynamic.

94 Points | Wine & Spirits - From vines planted in the early 1970s on volcanic soils, this pinot noir is composed, if a bit funky, with scents of smoke and rye grain, the lees contributing a savory edge. It takes a day for the old-vine fruit to waken, but when it does a searing red-raspberry flavor peals through the stalwart structure, and the combination is delightful. It has the stuff to cellar.

Elegant notes of red cherry, dried rose petals, and wild strawberry on the nose with deep layers of pomegranate reduction and baking spices on the long and luxurious finish.

Enjoy this wine with fresh cherry pie made with baking spices of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and a dash of allspice with a buttery flaky crust to bring it all together.

Winemaking Notes

A wet, but warm spring with a few mild frosts during late April and fewer than average heat spikes.
Near-record precipitation amounts during late June and early July brought increased disease pressure to the region.
The vintage will be remembered for the early rains in September and rapid cool down into October which challenged harvesting decisions.
The cool vintage came largely from substantially lower maximum temperatures while minimum temperatures were near average to slightly above average.
A classic Oregon vintage!
