2021 Janus Pinot Noir

The 2021 Janus is no longer available, but the 2022 Janus Pinot Noir is available.

A beautifully elegant and balanced Pinot Noir with complex notes of dried flowers, wild strawberries, and luxardo cherries with well-integrated tannins.

In Roman mythology, Janus is the God for new beginnings, as well as endings, the future, the past and doorways. Janus is the God of balance. The ultimate expression of Pinot Noir! Janus is our flagship… the richest, most vibrant and intense blend that we produce.

Janus is the first label that Jimi produced when he founded Brooks in 1998. Jimi’s passion and interests of mythology and astrology often were shown through the creation of his first wines.

Only 750 cases produced!

96 Points | James Suckling - Very complex nose that reminds me of a steak in a hot pan. Then, with a bit of aeration, red-fruit and pepper aromas develop. Really concentrated on the full-bodied palate, but also very fresh and juicy, the beautifully crafted fine tannins complementing all this exactly. I love the sandalwood note at the very long, velvety finish. Drink or hold.

- Stuart Pigott
Dried rose petals and chocolate covered strawberries on the nose, with undertones of spearmint. On the palette - expressive notes of red berries, fresh tannins, and balanced acidity.

Pair this wine with duck confit in a sour cherry sauce with potatoes sarladaise.

Chef
Well balanced and food friendly, the 2021 Janus effuses luxardo cherry, strawberry fruit roll up, sarsaparilla and potpourri. On the palate, the wine shows terrific depth and concentration, with pomegranate and sour cherry compote, sturdy tannins and great length.

Winemaking Notes

2021 Vintage:
Rain events at the beginning of bloom diminished yields, and a dry summer was punctuated with unprecedented heatwaves. The timing worked in our favor since the heat happened pre-veraison, and the vines handled it well.

Harvest started in early September, but lower temperatures across the state allowed for a long and measured harvest season, with harvest extending into mid-October.

No disease, high sugars, balanced acids, and great flavors. 2021 will undoubtedly rank as one of the top Oregon vintages.
