2021 Old Vine Pommard Pinot Noir

This wine is no longer available, but the 2022 Old Vine Pommard Pinot Noir is.

Classic Old Vine Pommard bursting with red fruits and old-world notes of forest floor, rose petals, and sarsaparilla with soft tannins and a lengthy finish.

Comprised of pinot noir grapes of one clone type, Pommard, from our very own Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills. The vines were planted between 1973-1974 in volcanic basalt-nekia soil. Brooks Estate Vineyard is farmed biodynamic.

94 Points - James Suckling - Intense nose of dried strawberry, sour cherry and damson plum with notes of bark and smoke. Mouth-filling, dark and concentrated with fine tannins on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Lovely silkiness at the long, very elegant finish. From 50-year-old vines at Brooks Vineyard that grow on volcanic basalt soil. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

OVP would pair beautifully with a grilled, herb-marinated flank steak with cherry relish

The Old Vine Pommard blend represents one of our two flagship pinot noirs from our estate property, with fruit from an increasingly rare planting of the own-rooted Pommard clone from the early 1970s. In lockstep with a classic vintage-cool spring, moderate summer, and long growing season-the 2021 OVP is strikingly floral with notes of rose petal, rhubarb, and wild strawberry preserves. The entry is rich on the palate, followed by elegant soft tannins, juicy cherries, and a long, succulent finish.

Winemaking Notes

Rain events at the beginning of bloom diminished yields, and a dry summer was punctuated with unprecedented heat waves. The timing worked in our favor since the heat happened pre-veraison, and the vines handled it well.

Harvest started in early September, but lower temperatures across the state allowed for a long and measured harvest season, with harvest extending into mid-October.

No disease, high sugars, balanced acids, and great flavors. 2021 will undoubtedly rank as one of the top Oregon vintages.
