2022 Crannell Pinot Noir

95 Points | James Suckling – A jammy and red fruit-focused Pinot Noir with juicy layers of red cherry, wild strawberry, red currant, and pomegranate with a playful cherry cola finish.

Comprised of Pinot Noir grapes from Crannell vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills, right below Brooks Estate vineyard. The vines were planted in 1984 in volcanic basalt-jory and nekia soil.

This Pinot Noir is made of 4 clones: Pommard, 115, 777, and 667.

Only 300 cases produced!

95 Points | James Suckling - "A complex pinot with the kind of earth and mushroom aromas many fans of this grape associate with Burgundy. Also shows sour cherry, dried lemon and orange peel character. Concentrated, with ample fine tannins on the medium-bodied palate. The wonderful mineral acidity drives the long, complete finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2025."

Winemaking Notes

Heavy frost in April delayed flowering and pushed back the season. Cool temperatures in May and June further delayed the vintage. The fear was that the grapes wouldn't ripen in time for harvest if the rain and cold weather came in early October as usual.
Luckily July and August saw hot temperatures that helped accelerate ripening, and temperatures remained warm, and the rains held off until mid-October, allowing for an extended ripening period.
We let our grapes hang out until the last possible minute, just before the rain and cold weather hit. The 2022 harvest was fast and furious, to say the least! The resultant wines are stunningly balanced and expressive. A truly classic Oregon vintage!
