2022 Old Vine Pommard Pinot Noir

An incredibly complex and sensuous Pinot Noir with dominant earthy red fruit notes of wild strawberries, raspberry bramble, and a mineral iron finish.

Comprised of pinot noir grapes of one clone type, Pommard, from our very own Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills. The vines were planted between 1973-1974 in volcanic basalt-nekia soil. Brooks Estate Vineyard is farmed biodynamic.

300 cases produced.

94 Points | James Suckling - This powerful and compact pinot noir may not have the most subtle aromas, but I love the red currant, dried orange peel and dry autumn leaf character. Some baking spices, too. Medium- to full-bodied with excellent concentration. Lots of drive at the moderately firm, long finish. From a high-altitude vineyard on shallow volcanic soil. Biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

Such a deeply delicious Pinot Noir with complex layers of dired rose petals, red fruits, and cherry cola.

Notes of raspberry, cranberry, dark cherry and leather on the palate. I would pair this with a cocoa crusted filet mignon with cherry salsa and dried herbs.

Winemaking Notes

Heavy frost in April delayed flowering and pushed back the season. Cool temperatures in May and June further delayed the vintage. The fear was that the grapes wouldn't ripen in time for harvest if the rain and cold weather came in early October as usual.
Luckily July and August saw hot temperatures that helped accelerate ripening, and temperatures remained warm, and the rains held off until mid-October, allowing for an extended ripening period.
We let our grapes hang out until the last possible minute, just before the rain and cold weather hit. The 2022 harvest was fast and furious, to say the least! The resultant wines are stunningly balanced and expressive. A truly classic Oregon vintage!
