Drink Better this Valentine’s Day

At Brooks, we want you to drink better. Knowing what a wine will taste like is an important step in deciding which Brooks wine to purchase. As we release new wines, our Director of Marketing, Jillian, enters all the technical notes into the website. She then organizes a tasting that you see above bringing a diverse group of palates together to write tasting notes. Tom (top left) brings a sophisticated palate from the winemaking team. Chef Norma is always thinking about the best food pairing for the wines. Jillian (sitting in for her is her dog, Gideon) approaches her notes from a sommelier’s perspective. An example from the site is below.

Buying Brooks wine means planting trees with Ecologi.

Coming fresh off our B Corporation Recertification these past few months, all of our efforts to do the right thing weigh heavy on my mind. I am so grateful for companies like Ecologi who make it easy for us to tie our business directly to helping our planet.

A climate-positive workforce involves purchasing carbon reduction credits for our employees’ lives (beyond their commute) as well as any business travel we do as a company. I pay a monthly fee for this based on how many employees we have and how many of us travel. In three months this has resulted in 350.79 metric tons of carbon reduction.

Since we started this program 4 months ago, we have planted close to 17,000 trees. These mangrove trees capture more than 4 times the amount of carbon as trees in the rainforests. We don’t get any carbon reduction credits for these trees as the carbon emissions they will sequester is in the future. We know these trees will be of significance to our planet as they mature.

Let’s set a lofty goal of tree plantings for 2022! There are a few things that trigger tree plantings but the most substantial is one tree is planted for every $50 you spend at Brooks on the website or in person. Last year, we hit our goal of planting 16,000 trees. By December 31, 2022, I have set a goal of 35,000 trees planted. Together, we can do this!

Our founder, my brother, Jimi was a true romantic. We crafted this blend to honor him, the vineyards he farmed, and the way he lived his life. It is a special wine for a special gift and Valentine’s Day seems like a great occasion.  It is a rare find with only 400 cases made and never lasts very long.
