2019 Rastaban Pinot Noir

This wine is no longer available, but check out the 2021 Rastaban Pinot Noir.

Refined and elegant, with notes of wild strawberry, black raspberry, and red plum, grippy tannins, and bright acid.

Comprised of 3 clones of pinot noir grapes from our very own Brooks Estate vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills. These clones are Pommard, 115, and 777. The vines were planted between 1973 and 1979 in volcanic basalt-nekia soil. Brooks Estate Vineyard is farmed biodynamic.

Rastaban is the name of a star and that star is the eye of a constellation called Draco. This is one of the first and more reserve pinot noir labels Jimi Brooks produced. Jimi’s passion and interests of mythology and astrology often were shown through the creation of his first wines.

This Pinot Noir would be perfect with a warm bowl of coq au vin fireside on a cold winter day.

An assemblage of our favorite lots from the Brooks Estate vineyard, the 2019 Rastaban is built to age gracefully. Black tea, graphite, wild strawberry, and red raspberry bramble waft from the glass. Well structured, this wine has sturdy tannins, a lush mid-palate and a quenching red plum finish.

Winemaking Notes

A wet, but warm spring with a few mild frosts during late April and fewer than average heat spikes.
Near-record precipitation amounts during late June and early July brought increased disease pressure to the region.
The vintage will be remembered for the early rains in September and rapid cool down into October which challenged harvesting decisions.
The cool vintage came largely from substantially lower maximum temperatures while minimum temperatures were near average to slightly above average.
A classic Oregon vintage!
